Taxes when buying a home in the Valencian Community (Costa Blanca): changes as of 1 June 2026

As of 1 June 2026, the overall ITP (Transmisiones Patrimoniales Onerosas / TPO) tax on second-hand home purchases in the Valencian Community decreased: the rate fell from 10% to 9% for properties up to €1,000,000. 

At the same time, for properties above €1,000,000, the higher ITP rate of 11% remained in place. 

Also from that date, the overall AJD (Actos Jurídicos Documentados) tax was reduced: the rate went from 1.5% to 1.4% for taxable events occurring on or after 1 June 2026. 

The lower ITP rate (9% instead of 10%) mainly benefited buyers of second-hand homes in Costa Blanca—when the transaction value fell within the up-to-€1,000,000 range, the buyer could pay less in ITP. 

The AJD reduction to 1.4% provided additional savings in deals where AJD applied, which is often the case in notarial documentation.
